Attention: Revolutionary SMTCOPS Parachute System Redefining Warfare

An exciting development is underway for the Parachutist Commando Group (GCP), with the adoption of the operational parachutist offloading system (SMTCOPS). This high-performance equipment promises to revolutionize their operations.

The Adoption of the SMTCOPS

The SMTCOPS, approved by the General Directorate (DGA) in September 2022, is being introduced to the Parachutist Commando Group. This groundbreaking system allows jumps from altitudes exceeding 9,000 meters and the ability to travel approximately 50 km under sail, whilst carrying a load of up to 200 kg.

The introduction of SMTCOPS signals a departure from the G9 parachutes from Air Azur, previously used by the GCP.

Bringing in New Assault Rifles

In addition to replacing their parachuting gear, the commandos of the 11th Paratrooper Brigade (BP) are considering adding new assault rifles to their weaponry. The GCP currently employs a variety of weapons, including automatic Glock 17 pistols, HK USP, HK LG40 grenade launchers, Minimi 5.56/7.62 mm machine guns, HK MP5 submachine guns, and an array of rifles.

One potential new addition to the GCP's arsenal is the SIG Sauer MCX Spear LT in 5.56 mm or .300 Blackout caliber. This weapon is a development of the MCX Virtus, presently in use by the 1st Marine Infantry Parachute Regiment (RPIMa) and the Mountain Commando Group (GCM).

The MCX Spear LT is particularly favored for its flexibility. The “upper” part of the weapon can be easily changed to alternate ammunition calibers. It also offers good ballistic performance in subsonic mode.
