A University of Texas at Arlington student shot and killed a UTA counselor's husband before turning the gun on himself on April 22.

The shooter, 22-year-old Antonio Garcia, was a business student and received counseling from UTA psychologist Adria Villarreal.

Villarreal is an assistant director of UTA's counseling service and works with "students struggling with a variety of mental health and adjustment issues" according to UTA's Web site.

Garcia tracked down Villarreal's husband, Steve McIntosh who was a Belo. Corp executive, and shot and killed him in front of the couple's 3-year-old daughter.

McIntosh had gone to the Country Day School of Arlington to pick up his daughter, and according to witnesses, as he was leaving the day care with his daughter in hand, he was confronted by Garcia.

According to the Dallas Morning News, police were informed by Villareal earlier that day that she believed she was being followed. Her claim was dismissed by officers because no offense was committed. But, hours later, her husband was killed.

Authorities believe that Garcia may have thought that Villareal was in the vehicle with her husband.

A few weeks before the attack, Villareal had stopped counseling with Garcia and referred him somewhere else.

According to The Shorthorn, students at UTA who knew Garcia say that he was very quiet and kept to himself. Neighbors of the shooter said that they did not try to get to know him and rarely saw him.

Any suspicious activity observed or threats received by student or staff should be immediately reported to police.
