Richland student media news adviser and adjunct journalism professor James Ragland was arrested on  a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault on Sunday.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Ragland allegedly got into an argument with his wife over text messages late Saturday. The argument reportedly escalated and Ragland's wife claims he threatened to hit her and threw her cellphone at her. Media reports indicate that the conflict continued on Sunday morning, when Ragland's wife claims that he pushed her to the floor and that her hair was pulled.

According to WFAA-TV, when the wife arrived at church Sunday, members of the congregation called 911. Ragland was arrested when he arrived later at church. He was released Sunday evening, according to published reports.

Ragland is currently a columnist for The Dallas Morning News and has worked as a reporter for The Washington Post and as an adviser at TAMU Commerce.
