Effective for the Spring 2012 semester, Texas will require immunizations for meningitis if you are enrolling as a student for the first time or if you are returning after a semester break in enrollment.

Proof of vaccine or booster within the last five years or proof of vaccination is due 10 days before the first day of the first semester you enroll.

Exemptions from the state law include:   those who are 30 or older, those enrolled in totally online or distance learning classes or those who submit an affidavit declining the vaccination for reasons of conscience, including a religious belief. Students must submit the exemption form from the Texas Department of State Health Services if claiming religious grounds.

Richland Chronicle will continue updating this story as we know more information. For more information go to the DCCCD website http://www.dcccd.edu/About%20DCCCD/News%20and%20Events/News/Pages/MeningitisAlert10-25-11.aspx.
