In a case that involved years of media coverage and forensic investigation, jurors in the Casey Anthony murder trial shocked the nation by ruling the defendant "not guilty" of the charges related to her daughter's death.
Two-year-old Caylee Anthony was last seen alive on June 16, 2008. The toddler's disappearance went unreported by her mother for 31 days, and her skeletal remains were found on December 11, 2008, five months after her grandmother contacted authorities.
Investigations were conducted before Casey Anthony was arrested and considered the prime suspect in her child's death. Years of further investigation and court appearances lead up to Tuesday's whirlwind trial that found Anthony guilty of four misdemeanor counts for lying to authorities, but not guilty of first-degree murder, aggravated manslaughter and aggravated child abuse.
Court watchers were stunned by the jury's verdict, and many have reacted violently as Anthony waits to learn if she will finally be set free after spending three years in prison.
