Throughout January, the Brazos Gallery has been displaying the work of Multimedia Faculty Director Dwayne Carter. His work "Midway to Madness" consists of large-scale prints depicting what he views as turmoil within society.
"We are animals with emotions on one side and law and order on the other," Carter said. "We also deal with the conflicts of rational and irrational thoughts, so my characters on my paintings have thoughts such as greed and lust that vie for power."
He also published a photo novella titled "Midway to Madness #2" that can be found at Keith's Comics on Mockingbird Lane.
The story told through the paintings depicts a fictional circus whose characters compete for the control of their world, which is to be an allegory for what Carter believes to be madness in modern society.
Having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of North Texas and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma, Carter began his teaching career with Richland in 1996 when the Multimedia Learning Center opened.
Despite creating his own artwork, Carter still has time for education, holding such honors as 2002 leader of the year in the Dallas County Community College District Leadership Program, among others.
"Midway to Madness" is not Carter's only work. He has had his digital art, paintings and videos displayed throughout Dallas for almost three decades. And he will continue his interests in storytelling through art.
