There's no room for couch potatoes when it comes to "Dance Central 2." Don't get me wrong, if you are a couch potato, there is still hope.
Starting the game you see beautiful iridescent colors that put players in a different environment, almost like you are in a club or anywhere else other than your home. Sitting in front of you is your Kinect. You raise your hand and select what options you want. Once you choose a song, you can just say "Xbox Dance."
There are crews and crew characters that players can choose from, each of them having their own personality, characteristics and clothing. The dances all remain the same regardless of the character, however.
After choosing your character and/or crew, there's an opening scene and I know the first thing that came to mind for me was, "What should I expect? Should I be scared, disappointed or excited?"
Well this game seriously blew my mind. "Dance Central 2" is so much fun and it is very user friendly for all players. There is a Break It Down mode to teach players the dance and to break it down for them. It's like "Guitar Hero" for dancing where you have the campaign/story mode called Crew Challenge. That's where players work their way through to impress four crews, earn stars on their favorite songs to earn the right to rep for them.
Playing through this mode will unlock new dancers, outfits and crews. Players battle their way through boss crews to unlock special characters. There are other game modes such as quick play called Perform It and also Dance Battle where players can battle against each other.
OK couch potatoes, there is a fitness mode just for you! The dances are different and there is a fitness playlist that gives players a variety of sessions that keep hearts pumping. In the Fitness mode the aim is more on body sculpting, letting players burn thousands of calories over hundreds of minutes while tracking stats. But the great thing about this game is that the whole game is a workout so no matter what you do, you will be sweating profusely.
The soundtrack on this game is awesome! You have all sorts of popular and upbeat songs as well as some slower ones. I did notice that there needs to be more diversity for the genders. It seems to target the feminine side when it comes to the music. I know that guys out there do not want to dance sensually to the song "Oops (Oh My)" by Tweet even if it is funny to watch. You can expand your library by taking new tracks in the game music store or import songs from the original "Dance Central" tracks into "Dance Central 2."
Another cool little feature is that it records players dances in the Freestyle mode so you can watch how awesome or funny you are! Trust me, you will more than likely laugh at yourself. But that's what I love about this game because, no matter what, you are still going to have a blast.
Overall "Dance Central 2" is one of the most fun and entertaining games that I have played in a long time. It's fun dancing by yourself, but it's even more fun dancing with a group. This game is great to play at parties. I would definitely recommend it for the holidays. This is a game that is a must buy! You will not regret it, even if you are a couch potato.
