For me, the whole purpose of 3-D is to add to the story. This is especially true when it comes to films of quality, namely James Cameron's "Avatar." Beyond that title, nothing else comes to mind, except the recent update of Fright Night, wherein one can almost touch the burnt embers on the screen.
The storyline in "Shark Night 3D"revolves around a group of seven friends Sara (Sara Paxton), Nick (Dustin Milligan), amateur model Blake (Christopher Zyka), tattoo fiend Beth (Katharine McPhee), video game enthusiast Gordon (Joel David Moore), as well as the engaged couple of Maya (Alyssa Diaz) and Malik (Sinqua Walls) who take a trip to Sara's family lake house off the port of the Louisiana gulf. The plot revolves even further around a couple of the locals, namely Sara's ex, Dennis (Chris Carmack), a former diving instructor who along with his friend Red (Joshua Leonard) and a bitter small town sheriff Sabin (Donal Logue) tainting the lake with various sharks.
Director David R. Ellis knows the horror genre all too well, previously helming the disappointing sequel "Final Destination 2" as well as the 3D plagued "The Final Destination." When it comes down to it, there must be some kind of cathartic way people relish watching other people die.
